Garment Care
Pearl Moon Flower garments are designed with longevity, care, and continued use in mind.
Many of our pieces feature considered construction, tailoring, and hand-led detail. Proper care is essential to maintaining their structure, surface, and integrity over time. Caring for your garment thoughtfully allows it to remain in use longer and supports our circular approach to design.
Read the care label first
Always refer to the care label inside your garment.
Care instructions are determined by the garment's original construction, material composition, and any reworking undertaken during the reimagining process. These instructions are provided to protect the garment and should be followed closely.
Where a garment indicates dry cleaning, it has been designed and finished with this method in mind.
General care principles
We encourage a slower approach to garment care. Frequent washing is rarely necessary and can reduce a garment's lifespan.
Where appropriate:
- Air garments between wears
- Spot clean small marks immediately
- Steam to refresh fibres and remove odour
- Avoid unnecessary washing
These practices reduce fibre stress while conserving water and energy.
Washing at home
For garments suitable for home washing:
- Hand wash gently in cold water
- Use mild, low-impact detergents
- Avoid bleach, enzymes, or harsh chemicals
- Do not wring, twist, or scrub
- Gently reshape while damp
- Lay flat or hang to dry away from direct sunlight
Machine washing is not recommended unless clearly stated on the care label.
Reimagined garments & dry cleaning
Most reimagined garments require professional dry cleaning due to their original construction, tailoring, or surface detail. This has been carefully considered during the reimagining process to ensure the garment's structure and longevity are preserved.
We acknowledge that conventional dry cleaning often uses perchloroethylene (PERC), a solvent known to be harmful to both human health and the environment.
Where professional cleaning is required, we encourage the use of greener alternatives where available. These methods reduce reliance on toxic solvents while maintaining garment integrity.
Professional wet cleaning
A water-based cleaning process that uses specialised equipment, controlled moisture levels, and biodegradable detergents. Unlike home washing, professional wet cleaning is designed to safely clean delicate and structured garments without distortion or shrinkage.
Liquid CO₂ cleaning
A solvent-free cleaning method that uses recycled carbon dioxide reclaimed from industrial processes. The CO₂ is pressurised into a liquid state, allowing it to gently lift dirt from fibres before being reused in a closed-loop system. This method avoids toxic chemicals and leaves no residue on the garment.
Silicone-based cleaning
A gentler alternative to traditional dry cleaning that uses a non-toxic, biodegradable silicone solvent. It is less aggressive on fibres and surface details, making it suitable for garments with delicate construction or embellishment.
Ozone-based cleaning
A low-water method that uses ozone gas to sanitise and refresh garments. Ozone effectively removes odour and bacteria at low temperatures, reducing the need for harsh chemicals while being gentler on fabrics.
Hand embroidery & surface detail
Garments featuring hand embroidery, appliqué, or layered textile work should be handled with particular care.
- Avoid abrasion and friction in high-contact areas
- Store carefully to prevent snagging
- Do not iron directly over embroidered or embellished sections
- Use steam from a distance where needed
Any visible variation in stitch or texture is part of the garment's character and should be preserved rather than corrected.
Storage
Proper storage plays a significant role in garment longevity.
- Store garments clean and completely dry
- Use padded hangers for tailored pieces
- Fold delicate garments to prevent stretching
- Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight, heat, or humidity
Our organic cotton dust bags are designed to protect garments during storage and may be reused as desired.
Repair & care over time
Minor repairs can significantly extend the life of a garment.
Loose threads, small tears, or worn areas should be addressed early to prevent further damage. Thoughtful repair is encouraged and aligns with our belief that wear is not failure, but part of a garment's life.
